Ella’s Song was written by Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon (of Sweet Honey in the Rock) as a tribute to Ella Baker (1903-1986), often called the mother of the Civil Rights Movement.
Performed by Shaking the Tree choir in isolation (Melbourne, 2020) and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and the quest for justice and equality for the First Peoples of Australia.
